Kindness - It's Contagious
This page of our website started with a sermon series titled 'Extreme Makeover - God's Addition'. In the TV show 'Extreme Makeover' they focus on changing the outside of the person; however, to become more attractive the inside needs to be changed.

Most people have the outside changes made to help themselves feel better. But those changes don’t last.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23

Deliberate Acts of Kindness
shopping carts  [ Aug 07, 2007 ] -- Anonymous
Whenever I'm shopping at the grocery store. I will take an extra minute to rearrange the cart corral in the parking lot when it's spilling over, to make sure no stray carts roll into peoples cars, and provide more room for others to store their carts as well.

Trip to Hospital  [ Apr 30, 2007 ] -- Randy Holmes
Last Friday Candi Fobart took my wife Theresa to Emory with a very short notice.  Theresa thought she had a kidney stone and was in a lot of pain.

We really appreciate this act of kindness!

Helping Hand  [ Apr 24, 2007 ] -- Randy Holmes
Last Friday Roy & Cherie Zeh took my wife Theresa to the doctor's office.  We greatly appreciated this since it's been difficult for me to take off time to take her to the doctor.

We thank Roy & Cherie and also Chris McClure who I had called and who then called Cherie.

Comfort in Grief  [ Apr 21, 2007 ] -- anonymous
I pulled into a local hospital parking deck and noticed a younger woman and an elderly woman in a tearful embrace. I said if they are still there when I get out of my car I will speak to them. They were still there so I walked up and stated " I noticed your tearful moment and was wondering if it was something prayer could help with" They both nodded yes stating that Dan the elderly womans husband and father to the younger one had just died. We joined hands and the holy spirit took over.. words flowed like a river with no hesitation and after, their tears were swept away at least for that moment. It gets better.... Later that day I called a co worker in San Diego to talk about work and again I believe the holy spirit took over.. I shared with my friend the events of that morning and after there was silence after what seemed an eternity my friend sobbing said I didn't realize how much that meant to him at that moment you see the previous evening he had been on his knees asking God to show him signs of his presence in his life. Who knew that that sign would come from 1500 miles away. Prayer does work. Praise be to God!

Helping our Church  [ Apr 16, 2007 ] -- Steve Perry
As many of you know, the church sponsored a new members lunch on Sunday.  In support of that function Janyce and I made sandwiches early that morning.  I went to get the fresh ingredients at 5:00 AM at Walmart on 124.  A wonderful lady named Debra was just getting there.  She helped me choose the meat, she cut all the meat and even though it wasn't her job, she cut all the tomatoes.  She went way out of her way to help a church she has never been to.  She is largely responsible for all the compliments we received on the food that day.

Going the Extra Mile?  [ Mar 28, 2007 ] -- Anonymous
I went walking in a subdivision where the houses are set far back from the street this past Sunday afternoon.  Many of the Sunday papers were still in the drive ways, even at the end of the day.  So I decided to take the ones I walked by up to their front porches or to their garages for them, even though it took the pep out of my stride
Proud Mom  [ Mar 22, 2007 ] -- Tracey Arvidson
Austin and I were out to dinner recently.  Shortly after we were seated, the family sitting next to us had finished eating and left.  Austin happened to look over at their table and noticed that they had left a jacket on one of the chairs.  Without even thinking, Austin grabbed the jacket and said, 'I think I can probably still catch them in the parking lot.'  He returned a short time later with a big smile on his face and without the jacket.  I asked him if he found them okay and he obviously had and he also said the lady he gave the jacket to said, 'Thank you very much.  You are a sweet young man.'  That really made Austin feel proud.  He had a smile on his face for quite some time.

A free cup of coffee  [ Mar 14, 2007 ] -- Dwayne Klepal
A very special person was so kind to get me a cup of Starbuck's coffee on a Sunday morning without me even asking them to. Sometimes nothing speaks of kindness more than a cup of coffee.

Helping a Neighbor  [ Mar 13, 2007 ] -- Anonymous
We had new neighbors move in awhile back and due to health problems of the wife, the husband was forced to stay home and help with their four children during the day.  Ultimately, they found themselves to be in deep financial problems, as well as, many health concerns for the wife.  We helped them with grocery money, as well as, cut their grass for them to relieve some of the burden.  Through this, the family saw us as people they could depend on in times of need.  Though they've now moved away from our neighborhood, we do still stay in touch some.

A Smile And A Kind Word  [ Mar 01, 2007 ] -- Pat Kane
I work for a large company in Marietta. Many employees do not even know the people 150 feet away (the other side of the cubicle farm). The desire for anonymity seems almost required. While walking to various meetings, etc.; I have noticed most people walk with their eyes on the floor only glancing up occasionally as they traverse the 500ft long hallways.

I have started staring at them, so I can catch them in one of their rare 'glances'. Once I have their eyes, I simply smile and offer a simple greeting. What is interesting, is they are no so quick to look down once someone has made contact. It costs me nothing, but the payback has already started. One of the people I see frequently actually stopped by my office to say hello and it turns out we share an interest in old VWs.

There is Such a Thing as a Free Lunch  [ Feb 20, 2007 ] -- Anonymous
I was at a Waffle House recently having breakfast.  When I went to pay for my check, I also asked for the check for the elderly woman who was by herself and had been sitting next to me.  I paid her check without her knowing and while her check wasn't very much, I think she knew it was an act of love on my part.

Stranded...  [ Feb 16, 2007 ] -- Anonymous
After leaving our worship meeting last Sunday, a woman and her son approached me to inform me that her van had run out of gas and she had managed to just pull into the very entrance of the church's parking lot and wanted someone to be aware of it.  She was then going to walk down to the gas station and see about borrowing some gas.

Well it hit me that I should at least drive her to the gas station.  So I proceeded to do so and then it hit me after speaking about her current dilemna that the "borrowing of gas" was probably not going to happen.  So I gave her my last $10 cash to get a gas can and some gas.  Then, instead of leaving her there, I took her back to her van at the church.

She was having a pretty bad day and just a bad few weeks and had begun to question God.  So, I hope she walked away feeling a little encouragement and a blessing from God.  What I like to call a kiss from God.  (His little reminders that our Father is always with us.)
